How to choose the right faja for each stage of recovery

A guide from the Belleza Reyna team · 6 min read

Your faja does more than hold you in. The right compression garment, worn at the right stage, helps control swelling and supports the shape your procedure created.

Why compression matters after surgery

After liposuction, a BBL, a tummy tuck, or other body contouring, your tissue needs support while it heals. A well-fitted faja applies steady, even pressure that helps reduce swelling, limits fluid buildup, and helps the skin settle smoothly over your new contours.

Most patients move through two main stages of compression. Your surgeon decides when you start and when you switch, so always follow their instructions first.

Stage 1: right after surgery

A Stage 1 faja is the garment you'll typically wear in the first weeks after your procedure, while swelling is at its peak. It's designed to be easy to get on and off when you're sore and moving carefully.

  • Front closures like hooks or zippers, so you don't have to pull it over your body
  • A slightly more forgiving fit to make room for early swelling
  • An opening for using the bathroom, so you can keep it on
  • Soft, breathable fabric that's gentle on healing skin

Stage 2: as swelling goes down

As your swelling decreases, your Stage 1 faja will start to feel loose. A loose faja can't do its job, so this is usually when your surgeon moves you to a Stage 2 garment, often a few weeks after surgery.

A Stage 2 faja is usually a smaller size with firmer compression and fewer closures. It helps continue sculpting your shape as you heal. Some patients go down another size later in recovery as swelling continues to resolve.

How a faja should fit

A faja should feel snug and supportive, never painful. Watch for these signs:

  • Good fit: firm, even pressure with no gaps, and the fabric lies flat against your skin
  • Too tight: numbness, tingling, pain, skin color changes, or trouble breathing. Loosen it and call your surgeon
  • Too loose: gaps, sliding, or the fabric bunching into folds

Folds and wrinkles matter more than you'd think. A bunched-up faja can leave indentations in healing tissue, so smooth it out every time you put it on.

Boards, foams, and extras

Many surgeons recommend accessories that go under your faja to even out pressure:

  • Abdominal boards to keep compression flat across the stomach
  • Lipo foams to soften pressure and help prevent creases
  • Back boards for support after BBL or back liposuction

Getting measured

Fit depends on your measurements and your stage of healing. Our Snatched Body fajas start at $159, with price depending on measurements and faja stage. We can help you choose the right size and check your fit during your post-op sessions.
